Where are the doors?

Although the Kaiser-Darrin was one month earlier on the market than the Corvette, we all know that the Corvette became the top-seller and the Kaiser-Darrin failed the market. Why that is so is beyond our comprehension as in our opinion the Kaiser-Darrin is a more beautiful car. Perhaps it was the sliding doors that didn’t appeal to the public? This idea came from designer Howard “Dutch” Darrin, who had first thought of this as early as 1922. We saw this gorgeous 1954 example in the catalogue of RM, who will auction it on July 30 at St.Johns (formerly Meadow Brooks).
