When will the Swartley Special race again? (upd. about Jim Troy )

This gloomy and battered creature once was the pride and joy of East coast racer Skip Swartley from Falls Church, Virginia. Swartley had it built in 1954/’55 and raced it throughout the ’55 season. He did race an MG Special before he started to appear in this roadster and Ken Miles (of MG Flying Shingle fame) is said to be involved with the build. We aren’t too sure about that claim though. Not in the last place because of the Swartley’s totally lack of swoopy shapes. Anyhow: originally, a 1092cc OSCA four cylinder lay in the space frame under the alloy bonnet but that’s been swapped for a slightly later mill now. Back in ’55 the car did surprisingly well in its (modified) class, but disappeared from the scene after that only to reappear recently. What happened in between remains mostly shrouded in mystery but it will be offered by Auctions of America at the sale of the  Terry Bennett Collection in New Hampshire, September 21-22.
