In the recent Padova Fair there were many strange italian cars made in limited numbers and bodied by very diferent body makers which were spotted by photographer Unai Ona... as usual in Italy! This time -among others- one of the "stars" was this italian 'batmobile'. A very rare Fiat 2100 "En Plein", created by Vignale. Despite its creator´s fame, it can hardly be called a beauty. The general lines are not very well proportioned, and perhaps the corroded gold paint doesn´t help a lot. There are charming details like the nearly dissapeared front wing and the "empty mirror" of photo 2, but to this car the rust isn´t a possitive factor. In period photos the model was presented in bicolour schemes, with whitewalls and adequate hubcabs, which helped to disguise the crude lines of the body, and there was even a more graceful "first series" model with rear wings, of which several cars survived. And as you can see here, an inappropiate choice of wheels or colour can prove to be disastrous in a so "personal" design as this, so be careful when restoring a limited series car.
