Yangtze Delta Rally - Day 2: Wuxi to Dongtai

Distance: 205 km

A day with different faces, more miles on a highway than we prefer but that gave a good view of the immense amount of apartment buildings the city has and will have in a few months. As far as our eye reached, we saw apartments and building cranes.

The day started with a bus ride to the parking. One of the first goals of the day was to find a bank that would accepts our bank cards/ credit cards, as fuel stations only accept cash. After visiting 3 banks, we went back to the parking and asked the organiser if they could help us. Luckily they were able to change Euros for Yuans and we now have enough for the rest of the rally. So we were able to start and had enough Chinese money to fill up the tank till the rest of the week. And we were off!

When you think of China, you have the majestic idea of lots of nature, small towns and very busy roads. But no, the organiser of the rally had different ideas for today and we had to follow the highways which was nice for a few miles, but when the rain came (and we don't have a roof or anything) the fun was gone. The roads and traffic are just unbelievable... It was not the China we knew from a few years ago. When we went further into the countryside, the scooters and clean cars became rusty bikes and trikes, old trucks were extremely loaded and the roads became a bit more racetracks (still not very dangerous as there wasn’t that much traffic). The last part of the route was in a very nice forest just like the finish.

When we finished, we found out one of the tires was slowly losing air so a new tire was fitted by the mechanics of the organisation. Another bus ride was planned to the hotel for dinner and to fuel up our energy.
