Porsche’s 993-generation 911 was introduced in 1993, replacing the 964 generation, and signalled a major step forward for Porsche’s signature model as the 21^st Century approached. Often regarded as the best 911 produced, the 993 was the final generation powered by the air-cooled flat-six engine that had been the 911’s calling card for the previous thirty years, before Porsche pivoted towards water cooling. The 993 was also the first generation to have a six-speed manual transmission fitted. Like the other 911s before it, the 993 was offered in a number of specifications during its production life including two-and-four-wheel drive, hard-and-soft top, and the rare Targa roof. Unlike previous 911 Targas, the 993 generation brought a sleek, modern approach, with an electrically operated sliding glass sunroof, allowing for year-round usability.
