The Airstream Argosy 20' Motorhome represents one of the most distinctive American recreational vehicles of the 1970s. Introduced in 1974 as Airstream's first venture into the self-propelled motorhome market, the Argosy combined the company's renowned aircraft-inspired aluminium construction with the practicality of a compact Class A motorhome. Built on a Chevrolet chassis and featuring Airstream's semi-monocoque body design, the 20-foot model offered exceptional manoeuvrability while retaining all the comforts expected of a touring vehicle. Its painted exterior, typically finished in subtle cream and brown tones, distinguished the Argosy from Airstream's iconic polished aluminium trailers and helped position it as a more affordable alternative without sacrificing engineering quality. Today, the Argosy enjoys a loyal following amongst collectors and enthusiasts, admired for its timeless styling, robust construction and rarity. As one of the earliest Airstream motorhomes, it occupies an important place in the evolution of the American RV and remains a charismatic symbol of classic open-road adventure.
This 1975 Airstream Argosy 20 represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of America's most recognisable classic motorhomes. One of only three in the UK. Retaining its distinctive period styling, this example benefits from a restored interior which sympathetically enhances its character while creating a comfortable and inviting living space. Power comes from the dependable Chevrolet 350ci (5.7 litre) V8 engine, renowned for its smooth performance and ease of maintenance, coupled to an automatic transmission with new fitted Gearvendors overdrive. First registered in the UK in 2010, it has been enjoyed by our vendor since 2020 and is offered as a charming, highly usable classic, equally suited to rallies, touring holidays or simply as a unique collector's piece.
