The 996 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 produced between 1998 and 2005 and represented the most significant evolution of the model since its introduction in 1963. Most notably, it adopted Porsche's new water-cooled flat-six engine, replacing the long-serving air-cooled unit in response to increasingly stringent emissions and noise regulations, while also delivering improved refinement, efficiency and performance. A sleeker body, redesigned interior and enhanced practicality broadened the appeal of the 911 without compromising the engaging driving experience that has always defined the model. Capable of reaching 60mph in little over five seconds, the 996 remains one of the most usable and rewarding modern classics in the Porsche lineage.
Finished in timeless Arctic Silver metallic with contrasting optional interior to sample midnight blue leather upholstery, this Carrera Tiptronic S specified new with optional traction control, and sunroof is an exceptionally well-preserved example that has covered just 38,000 miles from new. Purchased our vendor, a lifelong Porsche enthusiast who had previously owned a 356 before moving to the more comfortable 996, the car has clearly been cherished throughout its life. It was never driven in wet weather and has spent its ownership carefully garaged, a level of care immediately evident from its remarkable presentation. The engine compartment is astonishingly clean, appearing almost factory fresh, while the bodywork, interior and overall condition belie the car's age.
Following a period of storage due to our vendor no longer being able to drive, the Porsche has been lightly recommissioned, serviced and supplied with a fresh MoT test certificate. It is accompanied by a comprehensive history file together with its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, original and purchase invoice. Whilst a major service would naturally be recommended to bring maintenance fully up to date, opportunities to acquire an original, unspoilt 996 of this calibre are becoming increasingly scarce. It represents the sort of honest, collector-quality example that is virtually impossible to recreate through restoration alone and stands as a compelling proposition for the discerning Porsche enthusiast.
