The Ford Capri 2.8 Injection Special marked the final chapter in the story of one of Britain's most iconic sporting coupés. Combining the lively 2.8 litre fuel-injected Cologne V6 with a limited-slip differential, five-speed manual gearbox and distinctive Special specification, these final Capris have become highly sought-after by enthusiasts. Particularly rare are the very last cars registered in 1988, with a small number finished in the attractive Mercury Grey metallic as production drew to a close.

This desirable late example is one of those rare Mercury Grey cars and was acquired by our vendor from a long-term previous owner, the Capri had been in storage for some time and, whilst complete and usable, was in need of sympathetic restoration. Since then, the car has benefited from approximately £12,000 of body and cosmetic restoration, resulting in a smart, well-presented example that retains all the appeal of Ford's legendary sporting coupé. Mechanically, it has also undergone a comprehensive overhaul, including work to the engine, brakes, suspension, exhaust system and fuel tank. As a result, the Capri is said to drive exceptionally well and is offered with a recent MoT test certificate, valid until April 2027. The interior remains in excellent condition, presenting beautifully throughout, with the exception of the familiar dashboard cracking common to so many surviving Mk. III Capris.

Accompanying the car are its original owner's handbook and service pack, further enhancing its provenance. Increasingly difficult to find in unmodified, well-restored condition, the Capri 2.8i Special continues to enjoy an exceptionally strong following, with the rare late Mercury Grey examples proving particularly desirable. Combining handsome looks, dependable V6 performance and significant recent expenditure, this is a superb opportunity to acquire one of the final and most collectable examples of Ford's legendary Capri.
